I can use the Shift Lock Release button to get the car out of park, but it gets stuck again when I park the car. The brake lights are also not working. I saw another post with the same problem posted, but no root cause.

I changed the brake switch for $14, and the brake lights and back up lights work. The only thing all of the non working electrical items have in common is fuse #1 in the under-dash interior fuse box. I have included a diagram with the location of the #1 10 amp fuse. There should be a spare fuse in the same fuse box labeled "spare". Sometimes fuses get old and just blow.

To diagnose a Honda won’t shift out of park condition. Check fuses #10, 17, and 5 first. Then check for ground on the black wire at the shift interlock solenoid with key in the RUN position and foot on the brake. If you don’t see ground, the ECM/PCM isn’t providing ground.
Jun 4, 2013 · I would not have taken off the shift knob like you did to drive. I'd leave it on, use the key to slide the shift level to N and take the key to start the car. After that, you can move the shift to D. It makes sense though to replace the bad part of the shift knob as it is safer to start the car in P rather and N.
