You could always check a dps calculator. Serp is better, but costs to use. Faceguard is slightly worse, but free to use. Yes, higher strength bonus by +1, which most likely wont give you a higher max hit, while serpentine helm has higher defensive bonuses and immunity to venom. I'd still recommend the faceguard though.
